Real Climate (one of my favorite blogs) reports on a new paper from Nature discussing the warming trend in the oceans.
if there has been more energy coming in at the top than is leaving, then it has to have been going somewhere – and that somewhere is mainly the ocean.
The article is technical in nature, and discusses methods of bringing together the different datasets that have been used to measure ocean warming.
As you can see, the different methods used to measure oceanic temperature can result in a wide variation for any given year, but all of them show the same trend. The oceans are getting warmer. As Real Climate puts it
this is more evidence that the planet is basically behaving as the scientists think it is. And that isn’t necessarily good news.
